Text properties - Data Tab

The Data tab lets you enter the text you'd like to appear on the label or define the information you'd like to appear on the label at print time, among other options.

Data Type is the only mandatory field.

Field

Description

Current Value

(can only be used for constant data)

Enter text to appear on every label.

NOTE: Select Ascii codes can be used for formatting and for adding symbols characters.

Check Spelling

Click to check the spelling of information in the Current Value field.

Data Type

Highlight the appropriate data type.

Constant

Field has the same value on every label printed.

Serial
Number

Field increments or decrements, by a specific value, from one label to the next. To configure the data for a serial number object, click the Data type options button.

Merge/Link
Fields

Fill in the field with data from an external text file, and/or link to another field on the same label.

With linked fields, when the original field changes the linked field is updated.

HINT: The most efficient way to add Merge/Link text is by choosing File > Merge File Info (F7), and then clicking Add File. Select the file and type of file, and then enter the fields to add. You can also change the starting record or the number of times a record is used for a database. See Merge File Info for details.

Date and Time

Fill in the field with the current date and time. To select the format, click the Data type options button.

NOTE: There are over 40 different date/time formats.

Database

Fill in the field with data from Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, General OLE DB Provider, ODBC, or a text file. To configure the database object, click the Data type options button.

Formula

Calculate or join different label objects into a string, number, or date.

Drop DB Data (constant data only)

Click to copy and paste data from a database to this field.

Spell Check at Print-Time

Check to spell check this field at print time.

Prompt at Print-Time

Check to be prompted for data when the object is printed.

Prompt Options (prompt at print time only)

Specify whether the field can remain empty at print time, and the maximum number of characters allowed at print time.

You can also require that print-time information be entered in a specific format. If you select a print-time entry format, the operator will only be allowed to enter information in that format. Select a format:

Date - MM-DD-YYYY

Date - YYYY-MM

Update on File Open

Check Update On File Open to require the operator to input information each time the label file is opened.

Data type options

(not available for constant data)

Click Data type options to  enter additional options for the data type selected:

Disable Word Wrap

Click to space text exactly as it is entered, or unclick to allow text to automatically flow within the text box.

NOTE: Text from a database wraps automatically.

Width

Enter a fixed field width to override the default (autofit to contents).
