Merge File Info

The Merge File Info command merges data from a text, or CSV data file onto your label.

When merging a data file with a label field:

        • Select the data file

        • Select the fields to merge from the data file

        • Specify the type of object to place on the label (text is the default)

        • Select the starting record from the text file

NOTE: To create fields from Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, the general OLE DB Provider, ODBC, or a text file use the Data Sources pane.

To merge a data file with a label field:

      1. Choose File > Merge File Info. The Merge File Field window appears.

      2. Click the Add File. button. The Open window appears.

      3. Change the Files of type drop-down selection to All Files (*.*).

      4. Select a text or CSV file and click Open. The Merge File Field window reappears with the file name in the Merge Files column.

      5. Highlight the file name and click Add Fields. The Add Label Fields window appears.

      6. Select the fields to add by checking the appropriate boxes.

      7. (Optional) To connect all selected fields into one field object, check the box Combine fields into one object.

      8. Click the appropriate radio button to add the field/s as text, a bar code, or a picture.

      9. Click OK. The Merge File Field window reappears.

      10. Highlight the file name and click File Info. The File Info window appears.

      11. Click repeatedly on the <<Backwards or Forwards>> buttons to display the starting record.

      12. Click the Use Value radio button to fill the label with the data associated with the field

      13. or

      14. Click the Use Field radio button to fill the label with the field information.

      15. Enter the number of times to use each record in the Value box

      16. Click OK. The Merge File Field window reappears.

      17. Click OK. The label appears with the data file field names serving as placeholders.
