Bar Code Properties - Data Tab

The Data tab lets you enter the information you'd like to print or define what type of information will fill in at print time.

Field

Description

Current Value

(can only be used for constant data)

If you would like specific text to appear on every label, enter that text here.

Preamble

Enter up to ten characters that you would like to automatically print as a prefix to the selected object at print time.

Postamble

Enter up to ten characters that you would like to automatically print as a suffix to the selected object at print time.

Check Spelling

Click to check the spelling of the information in the Current Value field.

Data Type

Highlight the appropriate data type.

Constant

Field has the same value on every label printed.

NOTE: Constant data can be entered at design or print time.

Serial
Number

Field increments or decrements, by a specific value, from one label to the next. To configure the data for a serial number object, click the Data type options button.

Merge/Link
Fields

Fill in the field with data from an external text file, and/or link to another field on the same label.

With linked fields, when the original field changes the linked field is updated.

HINT: The most efficient way to add Merge/Link text is by choosing File > Merge File Info (F7), and then clicking Add File. Select the file and type of file, and then enter the fields you would like to add. You can also change the starting record or the number of times a record is used for a database. See Merge File Info for details.

Date and Time

Fill in the field with the current date and time. To select the format, click the Data type options button.

NOTE: There are over 40 different date/time formats.

Database

Fill in the field with data from Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, General OLE DB Provider, ODBC, or a text file. To configure the database object, click the Data type options button.

Formula

Calculate or join different label objects into a string, number or date.

Drop DB Data

(for constant data only)

Click if you would like to copy and paste data from a database to this field.

Spell Check at Print Time

Check to spell check this field at print time.

Prompt at Print-Time

Check if you would like to be prompted for data when the object is printed.

Prompt Options

(for prompt at print time only)

Specify whether the field can remain empty at print time, and the maximum number of characters allowed at print time.

You can also require that print-time information be entered in a specific format. If you select a print-time entry format, the operator will only be allowed to enter information in that format. Select a format:

Alphanumeric

Date - DD

Date - MM

Date - MM/DD/YY

Date - MM/DD/YYYY

Date - MM-DD-YYYY

Date - YYYY

Date - YYYY/MM

Date - YYYY-MM

Date - YYYY-MM-DD

Email address

None

Numeric

Phone number

Time - (12-hour): hh:mm::ss

Time - (24-hour): hh:mm::ss

Zip Code

Update on File Open

Check Update On File Open to require the operator to input information each time the label file is opened.

Data type options

(not available for constant data)

Click the Data type options button to  enter additional options for the data type selected:

Symbology

Select a bar code symbology from the Symbology drop-down menu.
