Scan Labels

The Scan Labels command checks labels for a variety of errors, produces an error report and lets you specify error handing rules.

Error handling options:

Number of Labels

Enter the number of labels to scan.

Begin

Click to start scanning labels for errors.

Clipped Objects

Objects extend past the edge of the label.

Invalid Pictures

Pictures cannot be loaded from a disk. The exact type of error is listed in the error log.

Invalid Bar Codes

Bar codes contain data that is not allowed in that symbology. The first invalid bar code alert in the error log lists the bar code symbology requirements.

NOTE: To avoid this error select  Options > Preferences. Open the Bar Code tab and check Modify bar code data to fit symbology.

CAUTION: An invalid bar code is printed as a box with the words "Invalid Bar Code".

Unreadable Bar Codes

Bar codes fall below the specified minimum readable resolution. This error helps ensure your scanner can read the bar codes you print.

NOTE: To avoid this error select Options> Preferences. Open the Bar Code tab and set the Minimum readable resolution to match the scanner used.

Empty Objects

Objects are missing data. For example, a merge/link field refers to a database that has no value.

Blank Labels

There are no fields on the label.

Invalid Formulas

The formula syntax is incorrect.

Rich Text

Rich text data does not fit into their bounding box.

CAUTION: A rich text error field displays "formatting error" .

To scan labels for errors:

        1. Choose File > Scan Labels. The Scan Labels window appears.

        2. Enter the number of labels to scan.

        3. Set each of the options to Ignore, Flag, Skip, or Abort.

        4. Click the Begin button. Scanning begins.

        5. Click the Begin button again to stop.

        6. Click OK to save the error-handling settings for the print job. If you do not wish to save the current settings for the print job, press the Cancel button.

To view the error log:

        1. The default error log viewer, also known as the print summary viewer, is Notepad.

          (Optional) To change the viewer, choose Options > Preferences. Open the Printing tab. Click the browse button at the bottom of the Print Summary section to select another viewer. Click OK.

        2. Scan the labels for errors by following the above steps.

        3. Click the View button. The error log appears.
