Printing Tab

This Printing tab lets you configure print methods and print error messages.

Field

Description

Override printer paper size, orientation

Check to use labeling software to control page size and orientation.

Uncheck to use the printer to control page size and orientation.

Use printer copies capability

Check to use the printer’s copy capability to paginate labels.

Uncheck to paginate labels with the paginate copies feature in the Print window.

Simulate color on black & white printers

Check  to replace colors with hatch patterns and grayscales when printing to a black and white printer.

Uncheck to replace colors with either black or white when printing to a black and white printer.

Use printer PCL commands

Check to use PCL commands to print.

Uncheck to generate a bitmap of the page to print.

NOTE: Using PCL generally requires less memory.

Optimize print for raster printers

Check to use the printer to generate raster code to optimize output with a non-PCL printer.

Uncheck to generate raster code to optimize output with a non-PCL printer.

NOTE: Using labeling software generally requires less memory.

Dither pictures for printer

Check  to use labeling software to control dithering when printing a picture.

Uncheck to use the printer to control dithering when printing a picture.

Top and Side

Enter the amounts to adjust paper in the printer.

Print Summary

Specify error-handling rules for each category listed in the boxes below. Error-handling choices are:

  • Ignore - Print the label, do not log the errors to the summary file, and do not add the errors to the error count.

  • Flag - Print the label, log the errors to the summary file for later viewing, and add the errors to the error count.

  • Skip - Do not print this label, and skip to the next label.

  • Abort - Stop the print job.

Clipped objects

Objects extend past the edge of the label.

NOTE: If a bar code lies entirely in the gray area off of the label, no error is generated.

Invalid Pictures

Pictures cannot be loaded from a disk. The exact type of error is listed in the error log.

Invalid Bar Codes

Bar codes contain data that their symbologies do not allow. The first invalid bar code alert in the error log lists the bar code symbology requirements.

NOTE: To avoid this error select  Options > Preferences. Open the Bar Code tab and check Modify bar code data to fit symbology.

CAUTION: An invalid bar code is printed as a box with the words "Invalid Bar Code".

Unreadable Bar Codes

Bar codes fall below the specified minimum readable resolution. This error helps ensure your scanner can read the bar codes you print.

NOTE: To avoid this error select Options> Preferences. Open the Bar Code tab and set the Minimum readable resolution to match the scanner used.

Empty objects

Objects are missing data. For example, a merge/link field points to a database that has no values.

Blank labels

There are no fields on the label.

Invalid Formulas

The formula syntax is incorrect.

Rich Text

Rich text data does not fit into its bounding box.

CAUTION: A rich text error field displays "formatting error" .
