Customizing Spell Checking

The Spell Checker Options window lets you configure the spell checker, add new dictionaries and enable custom dictionaries.

Spell checking can be customized in several ways. You can:

      • Set preferences for when to check spelling, what type of words to check and whether corrections should be suggested.

      • Add a new dictionary, such as a medical or foreign language dictionary.

      • Add a custom dictionary that you create.

      • Add words to an existing dictionary.

Description

Check spelling as you type

Check if you would like a wavy red line to appear under any text that's misspelled as the text is entered.

Always suggest corrections

Check if you would like alternative spellings displayed during spell check.

Suggest from main dictionaries only

Check if you would just like to spell check text just with the main dictionary.

Ignore words in UPPERCASE

Check if you would to skip words that are in uppercase characters.

Ignore words with numbers

Check if you would like to skip words that include numbers.

Ignore internet and file addresses

Check if you would like to skip words that are formatted as email and file addresses.

Custom dictionary

Select a custom dictionary from the drop-down menu or click Dictionaries to add a new dictionary.

Main dictionaries

See a list of active dictionaries or click Dictionaries to activate other dictionaries.

To customize spell checking preferences:

      1. Choose Options > Preferences and select the General tab. Click the Spell Check Options button.

        OR

      2. Follow the steps to display the Text, Rich Text or Bar Code Properties window. Click Check Spelling, then click Options. The Spell Checker Options window appears.

      3. Click the appropriate fields to enable or disable them.

      4. Click OK.

To create and edit a custom dictionary:

Custom dictionaries can be created from scratch or from a text file with a .dic extension. Words can be added to a custom dictionary manually, or by clicking Add while spell checking.

To add a main dictionary:

Professional dictionaries (industry, foreign language, etc.) with a .lex extension can be added to the main dictionary.
