A PDF417 bar code is a high-density, two- dimensional bar code that consists of a stacked set of smaller bar codes. It can encode up to 2,710 data characters. Each code word consists of a unique pattern of four bars and four spaces. Each of those can have a width of up to six modules . Each code work can have a width of up to 17 modules.
There are two types of errors that can occur in PDF417 bar codes: erasures, and misdecodes. Erasures are missing or indecipherable code words, while misdecodes are errors that cause the reader to interpret a particular code word incorrectly.
