PDF417 Options

A PDF417 bar code is a high-density, two- dimensional bar code that consists of a stacked set of smaller bar codes. It can encode up to 2,710 data characters. Each code word consists of a unique pattern of four bars and four spaces. Each of those can have a width of up to six modules. Each code work can have a width of up to 17 modules.

There are two types of errors that can occur in PDF417 bar codes: erasures, and misdecodes. Erasures are missing or indecipherable code words, while misdecodes are errors that cause the reader to interpret a particular code word incorrectly.

Description

Compaction Type

  • Auto: switches between EXC, binary, and numeric modes to minimize the number of code words to be encoded.

  • Auto (EXC/BIN): switches between EXC and binary modes.

  • EXC (Extended Alphanumeric Compaction): encodes all printable ASCII characters and can compress approximately two characters per code word.

  • Binary: encodes the entire ASCII character set and can compress approximately 1.2 characters per code word.

  • Numeric: encodes only numeric characters 0-9 and can compress approximately three characters per code word.

Security Level

Select an error correction level from 0 to 8, or select Auto to have the software automatically choose an error correction level.
