2 of 5 bar code symbologies have a numeric character set and unique start and stop patterns.
Interleaved 2 of 5
The Interleaved 2 of 5 bar code (also called I 2/5 or ITF bar code) is used primarily in the distribution and warehouse industry.
The symbol has two characters paired together using bars to represent the first character and spaces to represent the second. Each character has two wide and three narrow elements.
To prevent misreads and to provide a more secure symbol, a check digit can be included. In addition, to prevent short reads you may include bearer bars at the top and bottom of the bar code, or around the entire bar code. When bearer bars are included, they must touch the top and bottom of all the bar code's elements, and they must be at least three times the width of the narrowest bar.

Industrial 2 of 5
The Industrial 2 of 5 bar code (also called Standard 2 of 5 bar code) is used primarily for airline tickets, photo finishing and warehousing.
It is a low-density bar code symbology with a numeric character set and unique start and stop patterns. Unlike Interleaved 2 of 5, Industrial 2 of 5 may have an odd number of digits. Each character comprises two wide bars and three narrow bars. Industrial 2 of 5 has a space called an inter-character gap between each character. The size of the inter-character gap is generally the size of one narrow element.
A variant of the standard Industrial 2 of 5 bar code is an Industrial 2 of 5 bar code with two-bar start and stop characters. The two-bar start and stop characters are the same start and stop characters that are used for Interleaved 2 of 5.
